Shool Association

The School Association is a voluntary organisation that supports the school in many ways. It is comprised of parents, teachers and the Principal. A community representative can also be involved. The SA works with the Principal, the school staff and parents to build the communication between the school and parents as well as building the capacity of the school community as a whole. For those of you who are wondering about the SA, here is a little bit of information.

What is the School Association?

The School Association came into effect in 2003 when amendments to the Education Act 1994 made it compulsory for all schools to have one.

Some of the School Association functions include:

  • Provide advice and recommendations to our Principal in relation to the general operation and management of our school.
  • Aid co-operation between teachers, students, parents and the community.
  • Develop parent participation and involvement in our school.
  • Discuss and approve our school budget.
  • Contribute to policy development and reviews including code of conduct.
  • Involvement in school improvements and developments.
  • Raise matters of concern as noted by parents or committee members.

Meetings are held once a term, except for term 4 when we also have our Annual General Meeting. School Association meeting are held in an open, friendly and welcoming environment. This is a useful forum to positively participate in the life of the school and to raise any areas of concern regarding your child's education. Meeting dates are advertised in the school newsletter and all parents/carers are encouraged and welcome to attend School Association meetings as observers.

Members of the MPSA also participate in formulation and development of beliefs, values and priorities for the school, school policies and code of conduct. An active School Association can be a voice for the school as a whole and can add input into decisions that affect the school. Further information can also be found on our Facebook page.

In 2017 we have been looking at some of the following:
  • Building up and monitoring of the new Garden Cafe
  • Car Park Safety
  • Follow up on the safety brochure that was distributed
  • Follow up of the Bus Review
  • Seek funding from the government to keep certain programs in the school up and running
